Singing in whistle register?

April 17, 2008 at 7:44 pm | Posted in music | Leave a comment

Have you ever heard about the whistle register (Pfeifregister)? Mariah Carey is apparently using it – now I am not very familiar with her music, but this demonstration make it immediately apparent what it means. Myself, I can only produce one (and always the same) note in whistle register – and then it’s so loud it makes people turn around and leaves them baffled….

Too bad I missed out on this on TV – I saw him once in a concert once. I quite like how Stefan Raab is using German (and the fact that A.G. supposedly (?) doesn’t understand German) to crack jokes in a potentially uncomfortable situation.

Just a reminder.

If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end

Be it your sister
Be it your brother
Be it your cousin or your, uncle or your lover

Listen to their lovely rendition of Walk like an Egyptian (not much to see in this vid really):

And here are the lyrics you couldn’t sing along with in the 80s -it’s about time you learn:-)

All the old paintings on the tombs
They do the sand dance don’t you know
If they move too quick (oh whey oh)
They’re falling down like a domino

All the bazaar men by the Nile
They got the money on a bet
Gold crocodiles (oh whey oh)
They snap their teeth on your cigarette

Foreign types with the hookah pipes say
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian

Blonde waitresses take their trays
They spin around and they cross the floor
They’ve got the moves (oh whey oh)
You drop your drink then they bring you more

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)
They’re walking like an Egyptian

All the kids in the marketplace say
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian

Slide your feet up the street bend your back
Shift your arm then you bend it back
Life is hard you know (oh whey oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac

If you want to find all the cops
They’re hanging out in the donut shop
They sing and dance (oh whey oh)
Spin the clubs cruise down the block

All the cops in the donut shop say
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian…

Windows VISTA has so far failed to meet users’ approval – as a matter of fact, WIN98 nostalgia is becoming rife! Check out this little tune, composed entirely of WIN98 and WINXP sounds:

Just in case you didn’t know. Btw, Last.fm have announced to be now playing full-length songs and albums. The only hitch:

Full-length tracks are now available in the US, UK, and Germany, and we’re hard at work broadening our coverage into other countries. During this initial public beta period, each track can be played up to 3 times for free before a notice appears telling you about our upcoming subscription service. The soon-to-be announced subscription service will give you unlimited plays and some other useful things.
